1. A rainbow is a multi-coloured spectrum that forms in the sky.

2. The colours present in rainbow spectrum are Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange & Red. We can remember it by 'VIBGYOR'. 

3. The seven colours are arranged in rainbow according to their wave length, where the wave length of red is the longest & violet has the shortest wave length among the colours present in rainbow.

4. “Rainbow” comes from the Latin arcus pluvius, meaning “rainy arch.”

5. Rainbow is an optical illusion, nobody can touch it. 

6. From ancient times there were several myths regarding this rainbow. According to Greek mythology the rainbow is a bridge between the heavens and earth. In fact in Greek and Roman times, it was believed that rainbows were a path created by the goddess of the rainbow, Iris, linking us to the immortals. The ancient people of Serbia believed that the rainbow was the Storm God’s bow.

7. A rainbow occurs when it's raining in one part of a particular area of the sky and another part of the sky is sunny.

8. It was in 1637 when Rene Descartes first realized that Rainbows were caused by light from the sun being splitted into different colors by rain.

9. Sir Isaac Newton first explained how a rainbow occurs in the sky.

10. Rainbow is a phenomena caused by refraction, reflection, and dispersion of light specially sunlight through the water droplets of the air which are present sufficiently during rainy day.

11. At first light is dispersed on the surface of the water droplet, then it is refracted when it enters from air into water droplet due to the different densities of two medium(air & water droplet). Then after entering into the water droplet an internal full reflection of light occurs from the another surface of droplet & when it returns back to the air again it is once again refracted and creates the beautiful rainbow on the surface of sky. 

12. All colours in rainbow are within various angles ranging from 40 to 42 degree of angle in the opposite direction of the sun.

13. This is really amazing that a person standing next to another person can see rainbow in different form, as they observe it from different angles from their eyesight. 

14. When the sun is lower, the rainbow will be higher in the sky.

15. Rainbows are not semi circle, actually they are completely full circle in their form. From the earths surface we can see a semi-circle rainbow, but if we are very high from the earth's surface then we can observe a full-circle rainbow. For example a pilot can fortunately observe rainbow in a complete circle in the sky.

16. It has been found that the nearer it from the horizon, the more elliptical it would be. 

17. We can see rainbow more frequently in tropical regions where it can be created by waterfall during the monsoon.

18. In those places where in winter snow fall occurs, we cannot see rainbow there, because raindrop, after freezing turn into snow flake during winter.

19. Not only in rain, but also in spray, mist, fog, dew rainbow can occur.

20. Earth is the only planet in the solar system where rainbows are possible due to exclusive existence of water in earth.

22. Rainbows are hardly seen at noon because during this time the sun is on the top of our head.

25. Alexander’s Band is technically not a rainbow, actually it is a region between primary and secondary rainbow of a compound rainbow.
